Readers will have noticed yesterday that, for the first time in weeks – and what feels like months – I was able to break away from the single subject forming our obsession, and glance at other issues.

That does not mean that we are out of the woods on horsemeat, but there are certainly signs of the tempo slackening. This is just as well, as I was already tired when the press intensity increased to crisis level, and I am hovering on the brink of exhaustion.

The slight slackening gives me time to retrench and today we have our first management meeting on the Harrogate Agenda, which now has its incorporated, non-profit company, its board of directors and its advisory panel. We may have been a little quiet on the Agenda, but we have not been idle.

I assume that this is because this form of organisation (a) yields certain legal and accounting benefits and (b) avoids the need to register as a political party or charity.

It would be nice to see clarification as to the reasoning behind this decision.

There has to be a formal structure, not least to deliver a degree of accountability. We are not a political party, and have no intentions of becoming one. The Harrogate Agenda is a political movement. Thus, there was never any question of registering as a political party.

OK, so there are no specific reasons for incorporating as a company except that it has to have a recognised form which isn't a political party.

Whoa there....time out required.Unsure

Id doubt the bod put in charge of this investigation will be doing the hours you are...and he will be getting handsomely paid(though will likely do a worse jobWink ).We all appreciate and enjoy the work you do, but really no one would wish to push you to your limits. It is impossible to stay ahead of a vast media bandwagon 24/7...well and remain sane anyway.

I agree with Vincent, very well done work all round Dr. North but please do not overdo it. I hope that the Harrogate Meeting goes well and we will hear of the next move shortly. Best wishes to all involved.
