Presumably, they'll bang him up. The maximum fine for perverting the course of justice is life imprisonment, which is not long enough for this man. But then, this offence does not necessarily mean that the offender does time. A suspended sentence and community service is a possibility. About bloody time, even John Kelsey-Fry QC couldn't breathe life into this dead duck and Chris couldn't wiggle his way out of this one. Maybe and by no mean miracle his guardian reading mate Keir Starmer will sort him out, although the judge seems non too pleased and is taking rather a dim view..... Quote:"It is essential that you attend on that date and as Mr Kelsey-Fry has foreshadowed you should have no illusions whatsoever as to the sort of sentence that you are likely to receive. Understood?"
so said, Mr. Justice Sweeney. This bloke Huhne, thanks to Dave was running UK energy policy FFS. Mind you................ and back to the EU - thick as thieves, as they say.

There must be aggravating factors, like position of responsibility and that it's clear his very late guilty plea was the only option left after unsuccessfully trying to wriggle out of it for months.
I'm going for 8 months...

The sad thing is, as alluded to in the article, he'll get looked after with some cushy job when he comes out.
For the rest of us, we'd be failing a CRB check and struggling to get a job because of our criminal record.

The man is a 100% gold plated liar and typifies just how low our elite political class has sunk. I agree however that like David Laws and others he will rise to the top of the cesspit smellng of roses with a cushy job somewhere.
On the BDF forum the question has been raised if Nigel Farage will try and contest the seat stepping over the resident UKIP candidate who contested it at the last election.
Nigel of course came only THIRD to speaker Bercow in Buckingham in 2010 and has never yet proved to be a vote winner.
My bet is he will stand but as usual won't win. It would be so ironic however if he did win for it would be one corrupted politician replacing another!

Huhne's demise reminds me of another low-life parliamentarian who should also pay for his damage to Britain - Cameron!
I wonder: have you asked yourself why Cameron is pushing gay marriage so hard when it is so destructive for him politically? And similarly destructive also for the long-established way British society has developed - though that is not something that Cameron would care much for!
The only explanation is that he HAS to push gay marriage - or else! Or else what? Threats from various quarters, perhaps? Of certain personal secrets being revealed, perhaps? Is this the only possible conclusion?

Ding-Dong, the witch is dead! They're gradually going down, one at a time (those who are not mentally unfit to face trial). Only about 600 more to go. Her Majesty has tweeted: ' Might have Chris Huhne to stay. Perhaps at HMP Parkhurst.'

After all, is that not the way their " Good Ol' Boys' club" works?

But then he was part of the elite which has foisted this obsession with enforcing stupidly low speed limits on our roads. Hoist by his own petard methinks. It couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke. We should add however if everyone who was guilty of this particular offence was brought to justice we'd need ten times as many prison places as we currently have, at a conservative estimate.

Is this the only possible conclusion? That's probably one consiparacy theory too far, this time. When politicians start to advocate issues that are clearly going to be electorally disastrous, it's almost always because of the pervasive influence of Europe. I'm guessing that the UK is expecting a legal challenge regarding gay marriage under Human Rights legislation and Cameron believes that it will appear better if he starts to advocate it rather than suffer the humiliation of having the European courts telling us we'll have to do it. In the cold light of day, it's not an issue that I can get at all excited about. I sense it's also a bit like the fox-hunting debate was for Blair's government. If politicians get wound up about gay marriage, it looks as if they're actually doing something. Edited by user 04 February 2013 13:20:32(UTC)

I like the Mirror headline - 'for lying to the police'.
After plebgate we now see it's not only MPs who lie! Still let's not be too down-hearted one dreadful MP gone.

I wonder if the Conservatives will win the by-election? Perhaps UKIP will take enough votes from the Conservatives to let a new Libdim candidate in? I don't see UKIP winning, even less with Farage. Edited by user 04 February 2013 15:52:25(UTC)

In May 2011, Huhne's special advisor, Mr Joel Kenrick, was briefing that “These allegations have been made before and have been shown to be untrue.”
Today, Mr Kenrick is "Interim Head of Public Affairs at WWF-UK".

Perverting the course of justice. I expressed myself very clumsily. Tens of thousands of people in this country, possibly hundreds of thousands have point shared. They do this because they perceive the punishment of losing a quarter of your license for three years for a perfectly safe act of driving is disproportionate. I doubt most of them even realize they were guilty of perverting the course of justice. I know ignorance of the law is no defence, but the point I'm trying to make is that in the eyes of those who do it, it IS just about the speeding offence. I'm not condoning it, I'm just trying to explain what I see as the rationale. Of course Huhne is part of the elite, and a holier than thou member of the elite at that, who has foisted this on the British public, and as such forfeits any sort of sympathy. In fact, juvenile though it might be, I'm taking great pleasure in his discomfiture.
