This piece was brought to my attention, even though it is from a few weeks back. Says Vicky Woods: "The only person in government who I ever thought had an impressive grasp of defence procurement was Ann Winterton. Another Right-wing woman one had to hide one's admiration for".

Well, Ann was a Tory. Her party was in opposition, and she was a backbencher. To suggest she was "in government", therefore, is technically wrong. In an odd sort of a way, though, it is possibly closer to the truth than anyone can imagine. And, as any good politician will readily agree, they are as good as their advisors – which is no poor reflection on them. Good politicians hire good advisors, and know how to use them.

The opposition has an important part to play in a democracy, they should look for pifalls and try to correct bad legislation. Labour just cried ya boo typical Tory, whatever the debate was about I always felt Mrs Thatcher went awry towards the end due to the lack of intelligent opposition, now he works for the EU doesnt he?
