The story of this is simple but strange. A German beekeeper, in Bavaria, 'somehow' discovered GM pollen in his honey. The Pollen came from a GM maze crop (MON810) belonging to the Bavarian government. He took the Bavarian government all the way to the ECJ, who ruled that pollen, GM or otherwise, was NOT a natural component of honey and therefore all jars must be labeled that, Honey contains pollen.

If that was not mad enough, the ECJ ruling overturned Commission and prior Inter-Governmental agreements and recommendations regarding the precise amounts of GM pollen allowed in honey, before it could be deemed unsafe. In effect, they changed the law with little or no outside scientific consultation.

So to summarise. A beekeeper in Germany throws a hissy fit over a little GM pollen. Goes to court and wins. Has EU law changed. And now has set in motion a chain of events that will effect beekeepers and consumers not just here in the UK and the EU, but also for those selling to the EU.

Damn it, the Apis and Bombus are too important for the whole of the planet and life itself and certainly not least for their wonderful beauty - for surely Bombus - IS the most lovely insect on the planet.

On the wider question, the clowns of European integration [Ken and Mandy et al] shout - "if we leave the EU, then we have less power and less influence" when and patently the opposite is true.

FFS, would it not be immensely preferable to be our own masters and not be dictated to about - just what we can and cannot do - when particularly foodstuffs are concerned?

There is, there can be no argument: remaining in the EU is insanity.

We must come out [secede from the EU] of this damnable totalitarian empire - for that is surely what it is.
