Thorbjørn Jagland, former prime minister of Norway, is the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee – which recently awarded of the prize to the EU. He is also the Secretary General for the Council of Europe. By any measure, he is not exactly an impartial commentator on the EEA, especially as he is on the record as an active advocate of Norwegian membership of the EU, and author of "Ten Theses on the EU and Norway", in late 2003, containing arguments for Norwegian membership as soon as possible. Asking him, therefore, for his views on the utility of Britain leaving the European Union and adopting the Norway Option of EEA membership is about as productive as would have been interviewing Adolf Hitler in 1936 about the positive contribution of Jews to German civil society. He's from Norway, dontcha know, and thus can corroborate all those tales of fax diplomacy. How many Mere Citizens do you think are going to take time out from watching soccer to check his bona fides? After all, Mario is poised to quit City for AC. And Elton and David show off son No2.

He clearly loathes the people of Norway for voting no. Also, anybody listening to this will hopefully have enough sense to see that anybody who believes that the EU deserves a Nobel Peace Prize is obviously bonkers and not to be trusted. The old acid test - would you buy a 2nd hand car from this fool. As for Murnaghan. The man who jumped ship from ITV to BBC to Sky within a few years. Clearly following the money isn't he or just not very loyal? He, like most of the "journalists" have not got a clue or they just like to give EUphiles an easy time so they don't rock the boat.

Jagland qualifies as one of the most detested politicians in Norway. It seems they were exceedingly glad to get rid of him - his regarded as an embarrassment. Yes, that's about the measure for most things in this country. I couldn't give a damn about loony peecee passive smoking, it's passive football that's killing us. I wouldn't mind so much but in attempting to reduce the violence and 'racism' they're wiping out its only virtue. I hope there's a special place in hell for football commentators and footballers who give interviews.

I am pleased to say that my wife is not as gullible as the media would hope for. And she does not read EUreferendum.
