In what is going to be a one-sided and thoroughly dishonest debate in the legacy media, the weapon of choice will be the europhiles' favourite – fear, uncertainty, doubt (FUD). They don't engage. They don't address arguments. 'They don't answer criticism. They don't correct their errors. They lie, they cheat, and the resort to fear – because they have nothing else to offer. And scare tactics work They rely on shock value and novelty, alongside the handmaiden of uncertainty, all to create doubt. And doubt serves the status quo effect, pushing people to hold onto nurse for fear of something worse. View full article here

Richard North wrote Quote:But fear is a short-lived effect. Technically, it induces habituation. People get used to it, inured to the shock. In simple terms, it wears off. Once the weapon has been deployed, therefore, it is a diminishing asset. More and stronger doses are required to achieve the same effect, until the scare no longer works at all. Plenty of time for the fear to diminish before 2017.

It's a good idea......I'll get back to yers. btw Richard, have you seen this? Quote:Britons have been urged to help prevent thousands of homes being flooded during the big thaw - by building an army of snowmen.
With much of the country blanketed in white during the recent cold snap, families have been out in force to make sculptures in the snow, and the Government wants to see even more built, for reasons of function as well as fun. From the DM here What can you say to that - £1 billion p/a in public funds and that's what they come up with? Wonder what their recruitment policy is.....imagine the Guardian ad'....does it read with the subtext as follows: "The EA are looking for bright young things and blue, blue sky thinkers - please do not apply if you have a relevant qualification, particularly if you have graduated in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
English post grad's, green peace activists, eco warriors and common purpose grad's and all Sociology and bean counters especially welcome.
Please send in your application forms asap.
PS you can get your mum or dad, big brother to fill them in - if you are unable to even write your name.
The Environment Agency is an equal opportunities employer - we will take anybody who isn't more intelligent than the boss - which is basically the remainder of the human race."

I agree they are peaking with sound bites that have no substance and simply will not stand up to five years of reuse.
Interesting I heard some silly hack on Sky this evening laughing at the 3,000,000 jobs depend on the EU meme. A sound bite that has had such traction for years is suddenly an object of ridicule. I thought that was an interesting shift, people are beginning to laugh at the scare stories.

I would hate to add to Dr North's work load, but all these FUDs are going to need to be collated in an accessible database that we can quote in other less learned blogs so we can spread the word to the less initiated that fear does not work and there really is no barrier to our country winning the referendum and leaving the E.U.
The rebuttal will also need to be collated alongside the original FUD.
This does not need doing immediately, we do have a few years yet, but apart from sending in the daily FUD as requested, if every one can keep their own list of FUDs ready to upload when the good Dr (or volunteer) is ready to collate them then we can have quite a database to display later this year when the Euroweenies start to run out of steam.
Any comments?

From my, rather detached, perspective it does seem that there is a great deal of "crying wolf" going on on a great many fronts far, far too soon. They are obviously hoping that by the time decisions cannot be put off any longer they will have infiltrated the mind-set of the man in the street to such an extent that leaving the EU will be unthinkable. I think they're wrong to start the propaganda at such a level now, there's plenty of time for the truth to emerge......look at what's happening to the 'Global Warming' meme. The Eurozone could even have imploded by then, God willing!

It's not what you say, it's how often you say it.
Let me offer again the following important insight:
"The true object of propaganda is neither to convince nor even persuade, but to produce a uniform pattern of public utterance in which the first trace of unorthodox thought reveals itself as a jarring dissonance."
(Leonard Shapiro, writing of Stalin: ""The Communist Party of the Soviet Union"", 2nd ed., London, 1970 -- quoted in ""The Rotten Heart of Europe"", Bernard Connolly, p.xvi) |
Please hold: your call is important to us. |

Farage was the go to man yesterday for all the Eurosceptic comments and at each turn he was unable to counter any of the FUD coming from the Europhiles. Worst of all was his performance on News Night when he again missed an open goal.

Nothing quite like it for boiling the blood. So follow them follow, though it's all hollow, and then we shall wallow in glororororious FUD. All together now... FUD, FUD, glorious FUD... Edited by user 24 January 2013 13:13:13(UTC)

I got the impression that the outbreak of FUD was campaigning for "the speech" rather than a future referendum. The FUD continues, however, and it is likely to follow a story curve and fade away before long. The theory was put forward during the president Clinton misbehaviour saga that public/media interest in an issue now follows a soap opera style story curve where there is no actual end but less attention is paid to them. The lack of presidential morals was not so much forgiven as ignored or forgotten to move onto the next story. I think many will not be inured to the FUD because it will go into obscurity until the story is revived nearer the referendum (also after the general election). Thus parking the issue. A positive campaign, as Richard has so strongly advocated, would counter this trend and put the arguments in place before the next FUD outbreak. If the various presenters actually know the facts then hopefully more will react with laughter, like the Sky presenter mentioned, when faced with the foolish myths of the europhiles.

The eurofiles don't have any more control over their side than we do ours ... glory hunters won't be able to resist the lure of their fifteen seconds of fame, so there will always be someone in the limelight promoting the scary movie. I would think we need to keep hunting the FUD.

Most people will focus on the lack of democracy which genuinley worries people and there the EUWhores haveing nothing to say.
As to the economic worry.........looking at the glorious mess the EU is in economically , anyone with half a functioning brain cell, would run away from the EU as fast as possible.
Would one rather be a rich slave, or a poor free man...though in the EU's case, you'd be a poor slave and outside a rich man.
