David Cameron has decided to bring forward is speech on "Europe" to Friday, to avoid conflict with the 50th anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, also known as the Franco-German Treaty of Friendship, concluded between French President Charles de Gaulle and German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer on on 22 January 1963. It says something of the lack of awareness that Cameron chose this date for his big speech, a timing which has been seen as something of a snub to the "colleagues". Whatever the prime minister's advisors are being paid, it is far too much. View full article here

According to the Dutch media he will make his speech in the Netherlands. With the current Ditch government coalition of the PvdaA (labor party read left) and the VVD (read right) with Rutte in the position as Prime Minister, Cameron's speech could become a powder keg if he publicly labels Rutte as his brother in arms "fighting the EU". It could break the coalition since Pv/dA is as Pro Europe as can be. At least that's the fear of the media. I think this is just another organized charade aimed to channel the anti European feelings among the majority of both Dutch and UK populations. When this is all over we will see that just another act of treason has been committed against the people by the political elites. Edited by user 14 January 2013 17:49:19(UTC)

18th January, 1912 : British explorer Robert Falcon Scott arrives at the South Pole only to find that Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian explorer, had preceded them by just over a month.

I see Peter Hitchens is again alerting people to the lying camercnut today too. Mr Slippery Woos the Nitwits - Britain can leave the EU, but not via a Referendum. Peter Hitchens wrote:As my friend Christopher Booker ceaselessly points out, the only way in which we can truly vary our treaty with the rest of the EU is to activate Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, the one which allows us to leave the EU. It would have been nice if he'd thrown out a pointer to EUReferendum.com as well and mentioned the other fons et origo of good info on all the nastiness that is the EU, Richard North.

I find this ridiculous,to change his speech yet again for such a paltry reason, will we never be rid of the shadow of WWII?If it's not that anniversary it d be some other damn EU treaty anniversary...they have more anniversaries than my wife keeps(besides the normally defined one....eg. the date we met,the date we had our first date, the day we got engaged, etc etc.) I ve no doubt you could fill 365 days of the year with potentially significant EU anniversaries.

Scott on the other hand was keen on getting some science done, the main point of his trip. Note to Scott: Winners focus on a single objective. It wasn't the only time we were beaten to the 'finishing line' by a Norwegian. Those fellows know how to keep a focus on the important things, eh Anders? In both cases the Norwegians survived too. There's a lessen there.

The more you consider Cameron’s decisions, looking for strategies that must be so devious and subtle that mere civilians can’t quite see what he is doing, the more the nagging doubts occur.....what if he has no strategic sense at all? What if he and his group just react to events as if they were aged student activists with no senior experience outside politics? The coalition, homosexual marriage, an EU referendum... I think Peter Hitchin is a very astute observer of modern Britain but he does not pursue an obvious consequence of what is happening: a growing discontent verging on the type of resentment we saw so often in our colonies. Say the referendum is lost 60/40; this would be the largest anti-EU group in any of its members. This is supposed to be a model of co-operation and democracy (don’t laugh). Each unpopular decision by a European court, each piece of unpopular legislation...drip drip drip... Things are going to get worse in the EU.The demographics, particularly in the core economies, are dreadful. The Euro will continue to force internal devaluation spreading from Greece to Spain, Italy and then to France.Ukip won’t go away but the Conservative party might and what will replace it?

From the Daily Express: “PM BRIEFS GERMANS AND FRENCH ON EU SPEECH AS HE BRANDS IN-OUT REFERENDUM A 'FALSE CHOICE'” http://www.express.co.uk...erendum-a-false-choice-
As I suggested in my post above the political class are losing control of the debate and don’t seem to understand the inevitability of how things will now progress. There is now too large a group in Britain that simply wants us to leave, even a lost referendum would no longer end this debate.Maybe it is because so many of our political class have been educated to believe in internationalism rather than nationalism so they simply do not understand what they are dealing with.

However, this at least means that the Sunday papers will have something positive to write about, instead of their endless speculation – and Booker will be able to tell us what the speech really means.
Positive or definite? I can't wait for Booker's article. But passing serious comment on an attempt to present as an H-bomb, a squib which is not only damp, but has been retrieved in a deep sea trawl and is obviously totally incapable of going off even if thrown into a furnace, presents difficulties. Nonetheless, it offers comedic opportunities and I've no doubt Booker will rise to the occasion.

Cameron can never "justify" any treasonous activity, All he can do is break the anti european sentiments and position himself for the next elections. The big question is if we are going to let him get away with the continuous level of abuse of trust and his amateuristic act of "leadership"or finally decide to kick him out of office together with all the other cheats. Really, handing over 5 billion euros to an islamic regime in Egypt should be reason enough to chase them out of office, tar and feather treatment included. David Cameron reminds me of a headless chicken running around in a butcher's shop or maybe a rabbit caught in a car's headlights! Edited by user 15 January 2013 06:15:37(UTC)

Not our former colony, an area where we have little expertise and then Cameron said yes. Reasons to leave the EU, No. 3,000,001 - the formative EU army - instead of leaving Hollande to his Mali adventure and in order to not leave the French isolated..... guess what?Quote: Ministers have confirmed that Britain is "committed to supporting" a European Union training mission that would put up to 500 European troops into Mali within weeks.
EU ministers will discuss plans to accelerate the deployment at a special meeting in the next few days. Sources said the support mission, which is designed to help train the Malian army in their fight against the rebels, could begin early next month. Now then, I know that I am a cynic but wasn't one of the lame pretexts for remaining in Afghanistan - "troop training", I think this is another way to 'glue' Britain into a long term war and the EUwehr.
