We learn from The Daily Telegraph, where it is expressed in pathetically simplistic terms, that the Prime Minister "has been told by other European leaders and senior EU officials that the eurozone can fix itself under Europe's existing Lisbon Treaty".

The Janet and John reference here is actually to the "enhanced co-operation" process, the use of which has been signalled for some time. But, says Bruno Waterfield, using the current EU treaty to shore up Europe's single currency would rule out any opportunity for Mr Cameron to ask for new settlement bringing powers back to Britain in return for his support for deeper eurozone integration.

Why this should be news is anyone's guess, but The Daily Telegraph seems to think it is. Thus, it has been working on the basis that Mr Cameron would emerge shortly with a speech promising to renegotiate Britain's EU membership and then to offer voters a referendum on the new terms in 2015.

I know some will have already read this but.....

Quote:
"We benefit when the EU is unified, speaking with a single voice and focused on our shared interests around the world and in Europe. The more the European Union is focused on its internal debates, the less it's able to be our unified partner abroad."

Mr Gordon added: "Every hour at an EU summit spent debating the institutional make-up of the European Union is one less hour spent talking about how we can solve our common challenges of jobs, growth and international peace around the world."

Has the assault already begun, to cow the Britons into submission - "the EU is good" so says helper of POTUS Obummer!

On a list of nations, Britain is last on Barry's priorities but high up on his to do list and do in the sense of being done up properly.

Quite separately, and before seeing this, I have plonked a comment on the Spectator, echoing similar sentiments.

It is becoming clearer. We are either in or out. There is no halfway house. As Cameron cannot countenance leaving, we need a leader who will.

I wonder what the pronouncements by Van Rompuy and other EU nabobs, stating the bleedin' obvious, are doing for the people inclined to be taken in by the reform and repatriation rubbish, which was always the danger and the Tories stock-in-trade?

It looks like Cameron is standing on a sandbar which is rapidly being washed away and he can't swim for either the in bank or the out bank.
