You do really wonder what Loopy Lou does for brains, but even for her, this article breaks new ground. We, the customers, who are exposed to the under-investment, inefficiency and corporate greed of the water companies, are supposed to be grateful that, because of the unusually high rainfall, our water will not be restricted, while we are still being charged for a product we are not allowed to use.

But what really takes the biscuit is the Environment Agency which tells us of Thames Water, that it has enough stockpiled water to get through two "dry" winters.

But, says the EA spokesman, customers still need to be careful about their use of water. "In theory", he says, "we are never more than 18 months of very dry weather away from a drought. The topsy-turvy British weather is, above all, unpredictable".

This, of course, is the agency that was earlier this year warning us that the drought could last until Christmas. Crucially, though, it neglects to tell us that the area serviced by Thames Water has had a near-15 percent population increase since water privatisation yet there has been no additional reservoir capacity built for over 20 years.

More preachifying, uttering inanities is the meme.... dullard inconsequential nonsense. Jobs created, departments grow and salaries rise and more male and female sociologist/common purpose graduate bimbos are employed in the EA - telling us ooh, ah and ooh again - flood warning here and its raining there and hither thitherly.

But what do we get for £1000 million? A quango [the Environment Agency] which perpetuates itself, doing not a lot but gradually silting up, in a real and a metaphorical sense.

Is it an amber, a yellow, or a Red warning and isn't all this global warming so wet?! My God it was so dry in April and we all thought [here in the EA] we were living in the equivalent [rainfall amounts] of the Namib or Qatar. And so the graun+Beeb was hinting.....

Meanwhile, in the water authorities...........er companies. Those boys and girls, do their best to squeeze every last penny from the consumer and pay divis to the share holders and everybody gets a corporate pat on the back and oh no........... treated water - billions of gallons leaks away into the earth and Ofwat does...........well what do you think? ............FA.

Then, as in the energy policy................. + you need energy to pump water, despite the fact that immigration has meant 10 million extra bodies to hydrate - demand is to be lowered the consumer is at fault - for using too much of what is fairly clear to everyone: is an abundant resource.

Answer from Brussels and Westminster, is to make water ever more scarce - smoke and misty mirrors - we have loads of it but we cannot store enough of it and that I deem is a deliberate limitation.

Don't you see it, water, energy - what next? Will it be food rationing?

Politicians + the EU = the problem.

(btw on CAGW..... the EU told me to say that, warmer, colder, drier, windier, sunnier, darker whatever the weather its climate change and it's all yours and my fault! Sinners!)

The Mrs works at the EA, it always makes me laugh when she gets called into the "Incident Room". This is opened when there is a high risk of flooding or flooding already occuring accross the county. People phone them and say where its happening.

The bit I struggle with though is simply that none of them can answer the "what do you do about it?" question. I mean i can only imagine the phone conversations :

Member of Public: Hello is that the Enviornment agency.
EA: Yes.
MOP: My house is flooding.
EA: Oh.
MOP: well?
EA: where do you live, so we can tell other people in the area that their house is flooding too, incase they had not noticed.

With water, with energy, with housing, with roads, with public transport, with schools,---no attempt to link demand, by a rapidly increasing population, to the need for more and more.
Population growth is the elephant in the room for the Green Lobby.
