It is not like Booker to be kind to politicians but, as we have both watched the performance of Environment Secretary Owen Paterson over the last couple of weeks, we have both agreed that we were witnessing something exceptional. Interestingly, even Peter Oborne seems to agree.

Mr Paterson, he says, is the only politician to have emerged well from what is, in essence, a bogus political storm. His handling of this issue has been sensible and unflappable, offering all the right reassurances while refusing to panic.

Thus writes Booker in this weeks column, the real drama behind the ongoing story which for the past two weeks has been leading the news across Europe has been almost wholly missed.

Ah, somebody who actually knows how it works then... they all seem to be falling into line with Paterson the way Booker tells it.

The biog of the Tonio Borg and his railroaded appointment to replace the badly bent (and now near invisible) Dalli make it clear yet again that competence isn't a prerequisite for becoming an EU specialist commissioner as if we didn't know that already.

The ghastly Guardian will not go anywhere near this slant on the story - I hope Paterson gets and takes the opportunity to rub both Mary Creagh and the media's collective noses in it.

It'll be a shame if he doesn't.

And accountability for the EU's total fuck up and those who supported it and continue to do so?

As for that mouthy ignorant bitch, Creagh, I hope she bumps into some latter day Jack The Ripper.

Four hundred more MPs like the Right Honourable Owen Paterson and we could clean this shithole of a country up. We certainly need 600+ fewer of the scum we have now.

Get that creepy lying Cameron of out Number 10 so Paterson can move in. And do it NOW.

He knows how to pick his advisers well. A VERY good sign.

It should be disturbing to casual observers that a Eurosceptic understands the machinery of the EU better than the Europhiles.

I can see parallels between the Europologists, whose faithful prostrate themselves whenever they receive yet another directive from the Vatican on the Senne; and the followers of the Imperious Priesthood of the Church of Climatology. They care not for what is said; they care only that the elevated deign to speak to them.

I suspect that the Cameron supporters are plotting against Paterson as we speak. I did a quick search on "Cameron supports Paterson" and got zero results returned.

I found this though from The Scotsman:

"The impression of a drifting government was pounced on by Labour, with Mr Paterson’s shadow, Mary Creagh, saying: “The public must have confidence that the food they buy is properly labelled, legal and safe whether it is bought from a supermarket or in a school canteen. It is worrying that No 10 cannot rule out horse meat being served in our schools and hospitals.

“This scandal is now in its fourth week, and the incompetent Defra Secretary is nowhere to be found. He should get a grip.”

Do you think that at PMQs on Wednesday that Cameron will defend Paterson and go after Creagh. I would be surprised if that happened. Cannot have people thinking that the EU is a nasty beast can we?

This Mary Creagh seems a piece of work. This is the published opinion of her by the Standard Board tribunal in 2006 after she acted a whistle blower against Lib Dem leadership in Islington council.

Quote:
In a 159-page ruling the tribunal was also outspoken in its criticism of former Labour councillor Mary Creagh, now MP for Wakefield, who made the initial complaint.

It described her as an "insensitive witness, lacking in balanced judgment and one who was prepared to make assumptions about honesty and integrity of others without any proper basis".

www.guardian.co.uk/socie...ocalgovernment.politics1

And she ain't too popular with some in her own constituency

Quote:
Lord Lofthouse wrote to Mary and placed her on legal notice that she was not personally or professionally qualified to perceive maladminstration in Wakefield Flooding, the right honourable lord stated “That was the remit and purpose of HM Government Parliamentary Ombudsman, who is funded by HM Treasury”

Mary would not listen to the Environment Agency Regional Director, Lord Lofthouse or the community.

She effectively told them all to get lost; Mary refused to sign the form, Flooding continues

Interesting website Vincent. As it is close to Bradford, I wonder if Dr. North has anything to say about Wakefield Council or indeed Wakefield Voice. The corruption and lies are probably true for councils up and down the country.

Dr North is struggling to make sense of the details of food safety regulations, as they apply to the current crisis. I may be gone some time ....

Cameron will probably defend him with blandishments (without going into detail) and take the micky out of Creagh. What Cameron is unlikely to do is acknowledge the elephant in the room.

We'll see.

Harpy Creagh, is right out of metropolitan Marxist central casting - London estuarine accent [no Yorkie is she..... what did Wakefield ever do to deserve that?]. All righteous leftist indignation [bollox], spitting hellcat and sulphurous fire, loads of brimstone but significant of not a lot. I mean, lets be honest here, Mary's tares fell on rather barren ground, which undernourished her formation, hence the bitter tang. She is picking on the wrong man, it will come back on her when Mr Paterson has the time to focus on the Labour benches, however, he is rather busy at the moment.

Owen Paterson, is doing as much as he can, I rather think he is a decent lad but am slightly askance at his choice of political bedfellows, it surely must give the bloke nightmares and bring out figurative hives on his skin.

As John says above, with a few more [619] perhaps there would be hope for Westminster.

Mr Patterson, our regional EU farming co-ordinator known in some circles as the 'Minister for Agriculture' LOL, is doing a fabulous job and I will not hear anything said against him.
