Climate change: failure is an option

There are thousands of articles pouring out on the latest round of climate change talks. Fortunately, though, this one tells the story (above), and even the Daily Mail isn't far short of pronouncing the patient dead.

But if Kyoto goes belly-up in 1 January 2013, as far as the UK goes, it won't make a lot of difference. We have the Climate Change Act, the carbon floor price, and mad energy and water bills in the system. All it means is that, in committing economic suicide, the UK will be more and more isolated.

When it comes to climate change, therefore, it is the enemy within we really have to worry about. Failure is an option for the Doha talks – the agenda will go on without an agreement.
