Never trust a junkie

13/07/2011

Anyone who has ever had contact with a heroin addict will tell you that no amount of helping a junkie will ever yield results, despite best intentions and deepest hopes. You can feed them and clothe them and you can take care of the basics, but you just know any kind of financial help will end up being cooked up in a spoon.

The more you lend, the worse you make the problem. In the end, very little works other than treatment with a clean supply, reduced over time, or locking them in a room to go cold turkey.

In the case of Greece we have serious junkie. It is addicted to money. The same fixes apply. A clean supply of money reduced over time or the cold turkey option.

Only we don't have a clean supply of money. It is stolen from our futures. It is money we haven't even earned yet. That's akin with going to a loan shark to lend to a junkie to buy the next smack fix. And ultimately, in either case, when you follow the money, it winds up in the hands of bandit criminals who care nothing for where the money comes from and do not care if it is taken by force. And at the top of the chain you find some very bad men. Very rich bad men. Men of vanity, cruelty and contempt for their fellow man. Drug dealers are also unsavoury characters.

The only option is now is cold turkey. Starve the beast under close observation or the next stop is the grave.
